Run by volunteers, the Lower Wharfedale Oil Syndicate (LWOS) was set up in 2011 to reduce the cost of heating oil to the community by combining orders into one bulk purchase in order to get the best possible price for it's members. The syndicate covers the following villages in the Lower Wharfedale Parish area: Kearby with Netherby, Huby, Dunkeswick, North Rigton, Weeton, Stainburn, Kirkby Overblow, Sicklinghall, Pool in Wharfedale and Arthington
The LWOS is a not for profit community initiative set up for the benefit of the wider community. We welcome both residents and businesses to join the syndicate.
For efficiency and to help keep the cost of running the syndicate as low as possible we would ask that, where possible, members place their orders via the LWOS website. However, we recognise that not all members of the community have access to the internet so ask that, if needed, you also support your neighbours. Where this is not possible we will of course accept orders via email, post or telephone.
Similar rural oil syndicates in other areas have demonstrated significant savings as a result of working together to leverage their aggregated purchasing power. The chosen supplier benefits from reduced administration as a result of receiving a single order and fuel savings due to from more co-ordinated deliveries. Fewer road miles reduces C02 emissions offering environmental benefits.
We have developed a simple process which is easy for you and easy for us too:
